May 19/2011: Judge David Long Retires Afte 15 Years on the Bench Just Looking?
Judge David W. Long retired on May 16, 2011, after more than 15 years on the bench as a Judge and two years as a Commissioner.
Judge Long was appointed to the Municipal Court bench by Governor Pete Wilson in October 1995. He was elevated to the Superior Court bench by Governor Wilson two years later in November 1997.
Judge Long served for many years as the Supervising Civil Judge, handling all Civil Mandatory Settlement Conferences. Most recently, he presided over criminal matters.
Judge Long was named Judge of the Year by the Ventura County Trial Lawyers Association in 2007, and received the Alternative Dispute Resolution Advocate of the Year award from the Ventura Center for Dispute Settlement in 2005.
Judge Long worked in the insurance claims business for 17 years before pursuing a career in law. He was in private practice for 10 years, including partnerships in Borrell & Long, and Benton, Orr, Duval & Buckingham, before accepting the Commissioner position with the court in 1993.
Judge Long served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve for eight years. He is a member of and a former Senior Vice Commandant of the Marine Corps League, Ventura County Detachment 597.
“Judge Long’s contributions to the civil and criminal divisions of the court have been exemplary,” said Superior Court Presiding Judge Vincent O’Neill. “He has enhanced our court's reputation by devoting countless hours of his own time to judicial education, statewide committee work and many county bar activities.”
