Event/info: Dear ISI Member Rinks and Professional Instructors:
You are cordially invited to attend the 3rd Annual Summer Skatefest Open ISI Competition. This ISI endorsed competition will take place August 13-14, 2011, at Channel Islands Ice Center in Oxnard, California. If you are looking for a fun way to top off your summer, the Summer Skatefest will offer many opportunities!
We are excited to be adding two new events this year: Couples Interpretive and Surprise Skating Challenge. We hope both of these events will increase opportunities for participation and fun!
Channel Islands Ice Center, located in Ventura County, is conveniently located just off the 101 freeway and features two ice surfaces. Each ice surface measures 185' x 85' with rounded corners. Courtyard by Marriot is the official hotel for Channel Islands Ice Center. For reservations, please go to their website: www.oxnardcourtyard.com
Contact us for the competition information packet, which includes all the competition information and entry forms. All entries must be received by July 8, 2011. Late entries, if accepted, will be charged double. A full competition schedule will be e-mailed to all competitors and coaches and will also be available on our website.
This year we are pleased to be honoring the memory of a very special person by awarding a memorial trophy, the Deanne Laumann Award.   This award will be presented to the skater who enters the most events in the Summer Skatefest Competition.  Deanne Laumann was a very important part of our rink community.  She is remembered for having a wonderful way of encouraging skaters of all ages and their families to participate in the sport of ice skating.  Her passing left a void that remains to this day.  We miss her!  There will be a special on-ice presentation for the skater who wins this award, which will include a certificate for the skater’s coach.
We will also be awarding two prizes for coaches! One prize will be awarded to the coach with the most students participating in the competition and one prize will be awarded to the coach whose students enter the most events. In the event of more than one qualifying coach per category, the winner will be chosen by random draw from the pool of qualifiers.
Special note to adult competitors: In memory of the Bunny Hop Adult Competition, we will be scheduling all adults together in their own mini-competition.
We are looking forward to hosting you and your skaters at the Summer Skatefest!
Sincerely,
Wendi Lewis

OPEN FREESTYLE

Skaters who have only passed USFS Free Skating tests can compete with their USFS programs after passing only the ISI Open Freestyle test that corresponds to their USFS test level. For example, a Preliminary level skater would need to pass the Open Silver test to compete at the Open Silver level (would not need to take the Open Bronze test).

Skaters in ISI Freestyle levels can participate in their corresponding event level without taking any additional tests. For example, a Freestyle 1 level skater does not need to take Freestyle 2 and 3 tests to participate at the Open Bronze level.

Skaters can use their existing ISI or USFS programs, even if the duration of their program is less than the prescribed duration time listed below. There is never any penalty in ISI competitions for skating under the prescribed duration time. Also, "correctness" is the only technical score and there is no score for "extra content."

Judging criteria is as follows: Correctness, Variety of Moves, Music Interpretation, Choreography and Pattern, Posture, Presentation, Duration, and General Overall.
